Our Team

Our team currently consists of four advisors, Stacey S. Hyde, CPA, CFA®, CFP®, Hulon Warlick, CRC®, Hugh H. (Hank) Parks, CFP®, and Clay Chapman. Stacey and Hulon have been working as a team for about 15 years, while Hank merged Lifetime Planning with Independent Wealth Management in 2014. Clay joined the group to focus on portfolio management on 2015. Debbie and Atalya help take care of clients and make sure everything runs smoothly.

Stacey Hyde, CPA, CFA®, CFP®

Stacey graduated with a banking and finance degree from Ole Miss and began her career in the Municipal Finance Consulting Group of Ernst & Young. During her E&Y tenure, she earned her CPA designation. After E&Y, Stacey began her work in the financial planning and wealth management industry, earning her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER and Chartered Financial Analyst® certifications. By bringing together investment management and financial planning, Stacey can help clients create a road map toward achieving their financial and nonfinancial goals, whether those include retirement planning, college planning, estate planning, or a career change. In addition, Stacey works with employers to design retirement plans that help their employees retire ready while being cost-effective and easy to administer. Stacey has been named a Five Star Wealth Manager* by Memphis Magazine for the past seven years and was named a “Best in State Wealth Advisor” by Forbes Magazine in February 2018.

In her free time, Stacey and her husband, Robert, enjoy cycling, tennis, skiing and hiking. Stacey completed her first (and last) Ironman in May 2013. Stacey and Robert have two college age children, Kayce and Sam. Stacey is currently serving as an Elder at Hope Presbyterian Church, and she serves on the Development Board for the Church Health Center.

Hulon Warlick, CRC®

Hulon earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Mississippi. He began his career as a financial advisor in 1992. He holds series 7, 63, and 66 licenses and is authorized to give investment advice to clients.

Since beginning his career in the financial services industry, Hulon has enjoyed playing a meaningful role in helping clients pursue their financial goals. Throughout his years of service, he has always taken steps to provide objective and unbiased financial guidance based firmly on each and every client. In working with clients to shape their financial futures, he uses his extensive experience and seasoned knowledge to enable and equip them to pursue their most important financial objectives.

Hulon works with clients to gain an understanding of your personal goals, current financial situation and risk tolerance. Your personalized financial plan will contain detailed information about your current situation and about the goals you would like to achieve in the future. This approach provides each client an orderly way to identify relevant strategies for moving forward and addressing your needs. Financial objectives may range from accumulating wealth, to planning for retirement, to making money last as long as possible through retirement. Regardless of your goals, Hulon is experienced to help prepare you for all the significant financial events in your life.

Outside the office, Hulon attends Second Presbyterian Church and enjoys playing golf, hunting and fishing.

Hugh H. (Hank) Parks, CFP®

My approach is to remember a client’s goals, determine their financial plan and our success is measured by how well our clients achieve those goals.

Hank has had a distinguished career in the financial services industry, including more than forty years in financial planning and securities fields. From 1985 to 2013, Hank provided fee only financial planning services through his firm Lifetime Planning, Inc. Hank merged his practice with Independent Wealth Management in 2014. In addition, Hank is a member of both the local and the national chapters of the Financial Planning Association (FPA).

Hank received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Mississippi, where he also lettered in football. Hank began his career in finance as a bank examiner with the Comptroller of the Currency, an agency of the United States Treasury Department. He received his initial securities training at Merrill Lynch. He was a financial planning consultant for the Memphis office of Ernst & Young and financial planner at Morgan Keegan & Company, Inc. during the years 1982 through 1984. In April 1984, Hank completed his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional requirements with the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado.

Hank has been named a Five Star Wealth Manager* by Memphis Magazine for the past seven years. In addition to his financial planning practice, Hank has enjoyed serving on the boards of Presbyterian Day School, Second Presbyterian Church, University of Mississippi, and the Hope Christian Community Foundation.  Hank served as the chief financial officer of the Hope Christian Community Foundation from its inception in October 1998 until October 2000. Hank enjoys reading, hunting, attending baseball and college football games.

Clay Chapman

Clay serves IWM’s clients as the investment officer and portfolio manager. His duties include overseeing the firm’s investment process and money management strategies with a strong focus on “goals-based” investment planning.

As a firm, we believe in concentrating on things we can control such as:

  • Investment Plans that match your needs and risk tolerance

  • Diversification

  • Management of expenses, turnover, and taxes

  • Discipline through both up and down markets

Clay is a native Memphian and graduate of the University of Mississippi. He began his career working for a regional broker dealer specializing in fixed-income securities and prior to joining IWM, Clay was an investment research analyst for a private wealth management firm in Memphis. Clay currently holds his Series 7, Series 66, and Series 63 licenses.

In his free time, Clay enjoys playing golf, exercising, reading, and cooking with friends and family. He and his wife, Margot, have son named Callan and another boy on the way.

Debbie Whaley

Debbie grew up in Memphis and graduated from the University of Memphis with a BS in elementary education. She began her career teaching first grade and spent the last several years substituting for Shelby County and Bartlett City schools, working for the Shelby County Election Commision, and hostessing for Chick-fil-A. During the "between" years, she concentrated on being a mom and taught private piano lessons in her home. 

As a Wealth Management Specialist, Debbie maintains client files and assists with daily operations at IWM. Debbie is also the term life insurance specialist and the friendliest person you'll ever meet!

Debbie and her husband, Keith, are blessed to be the parents of Morgan; Lauren and her husband, Jeff; and Nick and his wife, Bethany. They are members of Waypoint Baptist Church in Bartlett, where Debbie sings on the Praise Team and works in the Children's Ministry.

Atalya Peterson

Atalya grew up in the Mississippi Delta region of Mound Bayou, MS, where she graduated from Delta State University with a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. From there she went on to obtain her Master’s degree in Higher and Post-Secondary Education from Argosy University. She began her career working with a non-profit organization integrating technology into emerging schools. She has spent the last several years teaching Business, Marketing & Management classes to high school students in the Cleveland, MS and Memphis, TN areas.

As a Wealth Management Specialist, Atalya is responsible for maintaining client files; managing calendars; meeting arrangements; preparing reports, account applications and financial data; supporting staff; and customer relations.

Atalya enjoys spending time with her daughter Marci, as well as her family. She is a member of the First Baptist Church in Mound Bayou, MS. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
